Home Learning if self-isolating or awaiting a Corona Virus test.

The government have directed that where a child is isolating due to Coronavirus symptoms, work should be set by the school. We will be using Oak National Academy, an online government-approved teaching resource that provides video instruction, assessment quizzes and activities across a broad range of subjects.

The work can be accessed from https://classroom.thenational.academy/schedule-by-year (full guidance below).

Many lessons come with an online quiz to check the children’s understanding. This part is essential and will identify any gaps in learning. Please check your child’s quiz and please email the child’s class teacher to let them know any successes or difficulties that the child is encountering so that they can be supported when they return to school. If there are areas that your child is struggling with, you can review those specific topics further at BBC Bitesize (https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/primary). You also have access to the online learning apps such as Bug Club, Century Tech and many more.

To access the work:

  1. Go to schedule: https://classroom.thenational.academy/schedule-by-year This will provide a page for all year groups.
  2. Click on the appropriate year group for the child, eg Year 3.
  3. This will take you to the page in the picture below (schedule home screen). At the top of the page will be the current week of the term (older ones are below). This will be dated (eg Oak Week 2, 14th September). See image
  4. Start with Monday’s work, regardless of which day isolation began. This is because the work is planned sequentially, so missing Monday’s lesson may mean key content needed for Tuesday is missed. There will be 2-3 lessons per day to complete. See image
  5. Select the lesson. When you have completed the lesson, press ‘schedule’ to return to the ‘schedule home screen’  See image
  6. The day’s work should be completed for each day the child is in isolation and no longer feeling unwell. If you want additional work, you can access previous weeks on Oak Academy or use BBC Bitesize to practise or revise specific topics. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/primary

All children have access to all the learning applications listed below as mentioned above and all work will be set for them to complete during isolation and/or while awaiting a Corona Virus Test.

Learning Applications provided to all children:

  • Bug Club                     School Code: 9qsc
  • Century Tech
  • Spelling Shed
  • Times Tables Rockstars

We ask that you continue to use your child’s email system during any self-isolation period to communicate with the class teacher.
