This week we have been enjoying looking at the snow and ice outside. The children have had different tools to use like logs and pretend drills. They had to see if they could break the ice using these tools. They had great fun doing this. We have also been out to explore the snow. As it was snowing one of the days while we were at Nursery, we took the children out to explore how the snow feels.

By doing this we got lots of language out of this and they really enjoyed seeing the snow falling on their friend’s heads. As it is getting very cold please make sure you send your child in a hat and scarf and gloves as we still go outside in the cold. If it gets very cold, we will not be going out.

This week we have been carrying on looking at Gustav Holst. This man wrote some songs about the planets. We explored how the music made us feel. We also looked in detail at a lady playing the harp. We looked at how she plays the music with the different strings.

After this the children had the opportunity to make their own string instruments using boxes and elastic bands. They spent some time wrapping the elastic bands around the boxes then moving the bands to hear the noises they made.

They really enjoyed making these and have had them out for a couple of days to do the activity independently.

As our topic this term is transport we have been looking at this is maths. We have talked about people going on a train and having train tickets. The children have then counted the train tickets to see how many they have had altogether. The children have also had the chance to write a price of their choice on the tickets during the maths lesson. This is then put on the tables for the children to do as an independent activity.
