This week the children in Year 5 have begun to look at poetry.
The poetry learning began with reading a poem called Tyger Tyger.
They identified the alliteration used in it and considered why a poet might have used this device in their writing.  The week concluded with the children writing their own either acrostic and verse poems.
In Maths the children have recapped the skill of using the inverse operation to check their calculations. This was then applied to multi-step problems. Some children have found that they can solve problems in their head, however they need to understand that step by step, clear, written calculations is really what is required.
In Science the children have looked at the life cycles in mammals and have compared the difference between marsupials, monotremes and placentals. The children made life cycle wheels of a kangaroo, rabbit and platypus.
